From “Wow!” to “Hmm… Let’s Tweak This”
The first time I stumbled upon ChatGPT, it genuinely felt as though I’d chanced upon a content creation wizard. Here I was, armed with an AI, ready to tackle anything from Facebook statuses to expansive campaigns! It was as if I had a digital work experience student at my beck and call, minus the requests for tea breaks. But, as with many dazzling new toys, the initial glamour began to wane.
A ‘deep dive’ into my journey
Over time, I found myself amidst a peculiar AI rendition of Groundhog Day. Some phrases began to feel predictable: “Deep dive into this”, “secure your spot now”, “unveil the mysteries of that”. It seemed ChatGPT had developed its own set of clichés and colloquialisms. It wasn’t long before I found a new hobby: identifying content “born” from the AI, as they all seemed to emanate from the same well-worn script.
But…wait
Now, let’s not be too hasty. ChatGPT hasn’t turned into some antiquated piece of tech overnight. It’s just that its ‘default mode’ became somewhat sales-oriented. And while that’s spot on for some, it wasn’t hitting the mark for me. I yearned for stories, nuances, and personal touches. I essentially wanted the AI to grasp the finesse of storytelling, not just repeat catchphrases.
But here’s the silver lining. Once I adjusted my approach, the magic of ChatGPT resurfaced. Rather than taking its responses on face value, I honed my tactics. My asks became clearer, like “pen this in the first person” or “add a dash of wit without overstepping into cheesy territory”. I started viewing it less as a one-stop solution and more as a brainstorm buddy. When the dreaded writer’s block reared its head, it was there, dishing out suggestions, allowing me to handpick and shape them to my flavour.
One approach I found particularly nifty was feeding it our previous content. Handing over a year’s worth of our Facebook posts, it became quite adept at mirroring our tone. And Media releases, a time-tested formula, ChatGPT delivered results that were pretty impressive.
The future
So, where do I stand with ChatGPT now? Overflowing with potential, but requiring the right task and touch. And like any tool, its power is defined by how we use it. For while AI may be hailed as the future, it still takes a human touch to make it truly shine.
